Voice notes and some downloads are Opus: a .opus file, or Opus inside OGG or WebM. Drop the file, pick a bitrate, and your browser decodes it and saves an MP3. The audio never goes to a server.

Opus files people convert

  • Turn a WhatsApp voice note or an Opus export into an MP3 any player can open.
  • Speech is fine at 128 kbps. You are changing the format people can play, not the length.
  • Convert here, then trim if the message has a long silence at either end.

How to use the Opus to MP3 Converter

  1. Drop your Opus file

Drag a .opus file onto the page, or click to browse. OGG and WebM files that contain Opus work the same way.

  2. Pick a bitrate

128 kbps is enough for voice notes. Use 192 or 320 kbps when the Opus file is music.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert to MP3. Decoding and encoding happen on your device, then the MP3 downloads.

Voice notes that only some players open

Opus is the codec inside many WhatsApp and Telegram voice notes, saved as .opus. It also sits inside OGG and WebM. This page turns that audio into an MP3 a car, a phone, or an older player will open.

The browser has to be able to play the file already. Chrome, Firefox, and current Safari handle .opus, Opus in OGG, and Opus in WebM. If a plain tab stays silent, this page cannot decode it either.

Speech does not need 320

A voice note is speech. Pick the bitrate for that:

  • 128 kbps is enough for a voice note you will send or keep.
  • 192 kbps if the note has music under the voice and you care.
  • 320 kbps only when the Opus file is music and you want the MP3 close to it.

Tags, and the OGG page

Title and artist are not copied. The MP3 is written without metadata. An OGG that is really Vorbis music belongs on OGG to MP3, which is the page named for that container.

Nothing is uploaded. If the note has a long silence at the ends, convert first, then trim. The silence remover is the wrong tool on a quiet music bed, but it fits a voice note with long pauses.

Opus to MP3 Converter FAQ

What is the Opus format?

Opus is an audio codec. WhatsApp and Telegram voice notes are often .opus. It also sits inside OGG and WebM. This page turns that audio into an MP3 you can play anywhere.

Which Opus files work?

Files your browser can already play: .opus, OGG with Opus, and WebM with Opus, in Chrome, Firefox and current Safari. If a plain browser tab stays silent, this page cannot decode that file either. WhatsApp voice notes saved on Android are .opus files, and they convert the same way.

Will converting Opus to MP3 lose quality?

MP3 is lossy, and so is Opus. At 320 kbps the MP3 is as clear as MP3 gets. Voice notes are fine at 128 kbps. Keep the Opus file if you need the original.

Are tags kept?

No. The MP3 is written without metadata. Title and artist are not copied.

Does the file get uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes the Opus audio and encodes the MP3 locally. The audio stays on your device.
