Save a song’s waveform as a PNG

Audio Waveform Generator — Make a Waveform Picture, Online Free

A waveform picture of your audio — colors, size and a transparent PNG, drawn on your device.

Drop an audio file, or click to browse

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and more

Processed locally — your file never leaves this tab

Free, no signup No watermarks

Drop a song, a voice memo or a podcast and get a waveform image you can use as a cover, a video background or a social post. Pick mirrored bars or a filled shape, set the colors, and download a PNG at video, square or banner size. The picture is drawn in your browser from the file you opened — nothing is uploaded.

What people make with it

  • A podcast or song cover with a waveform instead of a blank square.
  • A transparent PNG to lay over video or a thumbnail.
  • A wide banner for a site header or a video end card.

How to use the Waveform Generator

  1. Drop your audio

Any MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC file. Decoding stays on your device.

  2. Set the look

Pick a template, or set the style and colors yourself. Set the start and end if you only want part of the file. Presets cover 1920×1080, square, social and banner sizes.

  3. Download the PNG

The preview matches the export. Preset sizes download at double resolution so the image stays sharp.

A picture of loudness, not an edit

The waveform generator draws loudness over time: mirrored bars or a filled shape, in the colors you pick. The download is a PNG. Preset sizes export at twice the listed pixels, so a 1920×1080 cover comes down as 3840×2160.

Custom sizes above about two million pixels export at 1× so the tab does not run out of memory. PNG is lossless. This page does not cut, fade, or boost the audio.

Shapes people download

Pick the frame for where the picture will sit:

  • Video size for a background or an end card.
  • Square for a podcast or song cover.
  • A wide banner for a header. Leave the background transparent if you will lay the PNG over video or another image.

It is not a spectrogram

A waveform is the shape a music player draws. A spectrogram shows which frequencies are present. For that picture, use the spectrogram generator.

To cut the file first, use the audio trimmer, then come back for the image. You cannot play the PNG back into the song. Putting a picture into a WAV is image to audio, the other direction.

Waveform Generator FAQ

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The browser decodes the file and draws the picture on a canvas. There is no upload step. After the page loads you can go offline and it still works.

Will the PNG look sharp?

Preset sizes export at twice the listed pixels — a 1920×1080 cover downloads as 3840×2160. PNG is lossless. Custom sizes above about two million pixels export at 1× so the tab does not run out of memory.

Can I edit the audio here?

No. This page only draws a picture. To cut or trim the file, use the audio trimmer, then come back if you still want the image.

Is this the same as a spectrogram?

No. A waveform shows loudness over time — the shape you see on a music player. A spectrogram shows which frequencies are present. For that picture, use the spectrogram generator.

Can I get a transparent background?

Yes. Leave Transparent background on and the PNG has no backdrop, so you can place it on video or another image. Turn it off to paint a solid background color.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The controls stack on a narrow screen and the download button stays within reach. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop and mobile.
