FLAC sounds perfect and takes up half a hard drive to prove it. Turn your lossless library into compact MP3s that play on car stereos, Bluetooth speakers and older gear — drop the files, pick a bitrate, and the conversion runs on your own device. A 25 MB FLAC album track becomes a 12 MB MP3 at 320 kbps in a couple of seconds.

FLAC files worth converting

  • Make a lossless library playable on car stereos and older devices.
  • Shrink an album before a long trip off Wi-Fi or a shared folder.
  • Convert first, then trim the songs you actually replay.

How to use the FLAC to MP3 Converter

  1. Drop your FLAC

Drag a .flac file onto the page or click to browse. Other lossless formats convert the same way.

  2. Pick a bitrate

320 kbps is transparent for almost everyone; 192 kbps is the everyday balance; 128 kbps keeps speech and podcasts small.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert to MP3. The encoder runs in your browser and the MP3 downloads straight to your device.

Why convert FLAC to MP3

FLAC is lossless and large. MP3 is what most phones, cars, and older players actually open. A 25 MB FLAC often lands near 12 MB at 320 kbps, and smaller at 192 or 128.

The conversion decodes the FLAC and encodes a new MP3. It does not keep the bit-perfect file. If you still need the lossless master, keep the FLAC.

Bitrate and what is dropped

The format menu is MP3 only, at three bitrates:

  • 320 kbps when the file should stay close to the FLAC for listening.
  • 192 kbps for speech or a smaller copy you will stream.
  • 128 kbps when size matters more than the top octave.

Tags, art, and the next edit

Title, artist, and cover art are not copied. The MP3 is written without metadata. Put them back with the MP3 tag editor after export.

Trim or cut after the conversion, not before, if you want the edit on the smaller file. WAV to MP3 is the sibling page when the source is WAV, not FLAC.

FLAC to MP3 Converter FAQ

Does converting FLAC to MP3 lose quality?

MP3 is lossy, so some information is discarded — but at 320 kbps virtually nobody can tell the difference from the FLAC in a blind test. Keep the FLAC as your archive copy and treat the MP3 as the portable one.

Which bitrate should I choose?

320 kbps for music you keep, 192 kbps for everyday listening and sharing, 128 kbps for audiobooks, podcasts and lecture recordings — speech needs far less than music.

How much smaller is the MP3?

A typical five-minute song drops from about 25 MB as FLAC to roughly 12 MB at 320 kbps, 7 MB at 192 and 5 MB at 128. Exact numbers depend on the length and sample rate.

Are FLAC tags and album art kept?

Not currently — the MP3 is written without metadata, so titles, artist and cover art do not carry over. You can re-add them afterwards with any tag editor.

Is my FLAC uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded in your browser and encoded to MP3 by a library that ships with this site. The audio itself never leaves your device.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Pick the file and the conversion stays in the tab. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on iPhone and Android decode the usual formats. A long file uses more memory, so a desktop is steadier past roughly an hour.
